Photos from Sarkodie "History In The Making" concert at Apollo Theatre New York

The Apollo Theatre in New York on Saturday came alive with a sold out concert featuring Sarkodie and some of Ghana and Africa’s biggest stars, appropriately tagged #SarkodieHistoryInTheMaking. Present on stage were most of the advertised artists with the likes of  Kwaw Kese, Bisa Kdei, EL, Banky W and many more. Together, they thrilled patrons of the 1,500 capacity hall to the best of Afrobeats from Africa.

Disappointingly, Joey B, Pappykojo, Efya, Ice Prince, Samini, Obrafour and others couldn’t make it due to reasons ranging from travel documents and schedules. The show was hosted by Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo with music by DJ Mensah.

The Apollo Theater is a venue noted for African-American performers. Renowned artistes who have performed at the Apollo Theatre include Michael Jackson among others. The event was seen as a test in an exciting way for the Ghanaian artists to reach out to a broader audiences and to enter into the American mainstream musical consciousness. It was featured in the New York Times with the title ‘Hiplife, a Sound Imported From Ghana, Arrives on a New York Stage’. The event was organized my TM Entertainment
